The bunkhouse nursery was probably the hardest part to figure out in my entire renovation project.
At the time of renovating, I had a 9 month old and a 2.5 year old. I knew I needed a crib, a bunk bed for the toddler, a rail, ladder, a place to store their clothes, a place to store toys and books and we needed floor space to play. A lot to ask for such a tiny space, I know!
(This picture above is the original space)
So I took out 2 bunks and the storage cabinet to make space. Immediately the room felt bigger and more open.
I looked into several ideas for adding a crib into the bunkroom. All I kept seeing was building a type of cage for my baby, and I just wasn't into that. I wanted to have a crib, then it hit me. I realized, measured and got excited! There was room for an IKEA crib to fit. Best part? It would fit without me having to make any alterations to the crib or bunk.
How cool is that?!

The painting process did a huge transformation on this space. You know, when you're in the moment....everything seems like its transforming the space and yet it equally feels like there is no changes being made in said space.
The wallpaper made me feel like the bunk room was actually a room. The wallpaper was also much simpler to hang than I was thinking it would be. However, I was very grateful for a friend who was able to be an extra set of hands as we were hanging it.
Another big transformation happened when my hubby laid floor.
In the end, the bunkroom came together so well and ended up being everything we needed and that I had hoped for.
The Ladder:
I built and stained a ladder out of 2x2s leftover from building a wall. I was able to construct the ladder to also stabilize the bunkbed where I had taken the stabilizing cabinet away.
I also stained the ladder to match the bedrail and then used L brackets to attach the rail to the bunkbed.
