Conquer Laundry Chaos: Easy Solutions for Busy Moms

Tired of feeling overwhelmed by the daily grind of laundry? The never-ending pile of laundry, that constantly needs to be sorted, washed, dried, and folded—laundry can seem like a daunting task that steals so much precious time and energy.

As moms we juggle busy schedules, family commitments, and personal time, only to be buried under heaps of laundry. The stress of not staying on top of it all can leave us feeling frustrated and drained, impacting your well-being and time with our loved ones.

If this is you, let me tell you about my little secret to help me get time back and NOT drown in laundry--I'd call that a WIN-WIN ;) Introducing the idea of a capsule wardrobe, your ultimate laundry solution designed with busy moms in mind. This innovative system streamlines the entire process, from sorting and washing to drying and folding. The capsule wardrobe simplifies each step, freeing up your time and reducing stress. Experience the ease of effortless laundry days and reclaim your time with the capsule wardrobe—because you deserve a solution that works as hard as you do.

Minimalism can actually help alleviate several laundry-related pain points for busy moms! My favorites are:

1. Reduced Clothing Volume:

By embracing minimalism, parents can maintain a smaller wardrobe for their children, reducing the overall volume of laundry and simplifying the sorting and washing process. You know, less clothes also means less clothes to dump onto the floor...oh wait, it's just my kids that do that?! okay! lol

2. Easier Organization:

Fewer clothes mean less sorting and organizing, making it easier to manage and store items, which really streamlines the laundry routine.

3. Reduced Overwhelm:

Minimalism can help declutter the laundry space, making it less overwhelming and easier to stay on top of laundry tasks without feeling buried by excessive amounts of clothing. —a mothers true dreams!

4. Reduced Decision Fatigue:

With fewer clothing choices, decisions about what to wash, wear, or pack become easier and quicker, reducing mental strain. Once you make the swap, you'll see your kids freer from decision fatigue as well...yes! It effects them too, not just us!

5. Less Laundry Sorting: Fewer clothes mean fewer categories to sort (e.g., separating out delicate items), which simplifies the sorting process or follow my lead and don't even sort the clothes at all! I don’t sort because generlly the capsule wardrobe colors all go together. Every now and then I will need to sepatate it out--but I mean RARE! and it's not overwhelming.

Extra bonus, with fewer items to wash, moms can run fewer loads of laundry, maximizing the efficiency of their washing machine and dryer and saving time and energy.or

HOW TO GET STARTED:

It's said people wear less than 20% of what's in their closet, so why not only have what you actually wear and love, right?

1 - Decide you want to go for it:

This may seem silly but so many people are skepitcal that a capsule wardrobe will work. I'm here telling you it DOES! Don't believe me, what's the worst that will happen? You'll hate it and need to go buy more clothes...so, are you willing to take that risk? Because if it DOES work, you will have unlocked a volt of freedom for you and your family.

2 - Decide your colors and style:

Have fun, feel inspired. My favorite resource for this is pinterest. I enjoy looking for my style, trending colors and trending outfits too to get inspiration and 'shop my closet' (which is the next step)

This is what to think about when deciding your colors:

  • Decide your base color:

Basically do you prefer how you look in brown or black clothes? It's the base color because it will go with anything you choose in your closet. Picking the color will also help eliminate about 1/2 of your wardrobe right away….including shoes. Once you pick a base color and don’t look back.

  • Choose neutral and coordinating essentials:

For example, if you choose black as a base color…neutral and coordinating colors would be gray and white. Keeping in mind….khaki, tans, and other non-coordinating colors can quickly go into the donate pile. Or if you choose brown for the base color, the opposite is true.

  • Decide your accident colors:

This step is the funnest because it makes your wardrobe be YOU. What colors do you love on yourself? Do you want to do a seasonal wardrobe? Pick 2-3 colors and add those into your base and neutral colors. This insures fun and variations in your closet while still keeping everything coordinating and going together.

  • Patterns and layers:

Floral? Stripes? Polka dots? What’s your favorite sweater? Do you have a favorite top that doesn't fit the description above, but you love?

Keep only the things you truly love and enjoy wearing and what FITS you! Otherwise you're keeping clutter--to put it bluntly. (This step will be easier to decide once you move to step three...but it's apart of choosing your colors and style so I went ahead and placed it in this section.)

3 - Empty ALL drawers, closets, bags of clothes into one area:

The living room is a great area for this if doing this. You will quickly see just how many white shirts (that look the same) you already have or how many green dresses you have. This step is super important.

You'll now begin to sort through all of the clothes and making 3 piles: To donate, to keep, and trash.

Donate any colors you won't be using anymore and the clothing that doesn't fit you.

Trash any clothes that are stained, damaged or no longer able to be worn.

Keep what you love, what fits you and your style today.

Hall Pass Pile:

Now, I'll give you a fourth pile or a 'hall pass' pile. What this is is a pile of things you're not sure what to do with. You think you will need them, or you think you'll be in that size again soon. You know what I'm talking about. Make a pile of them and when you're done sorting through everything, box this pile up. Label AND date the box. If you haven't looked for anything inside of that box 6 months from now...you can safety donate the box.

4 - Shoes and Accessories:

Pearls or diamonds? How many dressy verses relaxed shoes do you need? Is what you’re keeping going to march what’s in your closet? Are the shoes comfortable? Aka do you enjoy wearing the shoes?!

I while back I decided I was no longer going to wear heels because I really just didn't like them. With freedom I was able to donate all of my heels. So now if I truly need a pair of heels, I'll borrow some or just opt for the shoes I know fit me and I feel comfortable in and not worry because I have the 'wrong' shoes...I mean it's now stylish to wear tennis-shoes with dresses lol

5- Make a list of what you need to complete your wardrobe:

This is the final step besides actually shopping for the items. You've successfully shopped your wardrobe and kept everything you actually need. You probably won't need much of anything but you never know. You may need one pair of shoes to pull everything together, or one pair of jeans. So enjoy this step because it's come after a lot of work to sort through and minimize the current closet. It's also important you have everything you need in your wardrobe to feel good about you and successful in the mission of capsule wardrobing (is that a word? eh, we will go with it lol)

Creating a capsule wardrobe is fun and simply. It gets easier the more times you do it :)

Start the process today, this fall while you’re out shopping for back to school clothes and the upcoming fall season! Because the results are here and waiting to bless you!

Fun Fact: We didn't go shopping for our matching outfits in this photo shoot. We already owned everything that matched and coordinated together. It made the photo session more fun because we were comfortable in our clothes :)
